Shadow Creations create Election 2011 for RTE
Shadow Creations, which recently completed the RTE Election 2011 TV studio set, has received plaudits from the marketplace for its work on the project. The company, based in Rathcoole, Co Dublin, specialises in the construction of sets, props, models, costumes and miniatures for the TV, film, event and advertising industries from its 650m2 purpose built workshops.
Tim Cains, co-director of Shadow Creations, said: “Basically the set comprises three circular desks with a whole range of floating graphics surrounding the perimeter of it. These were hung from a grid above the set and consisted of printed mesh panels as well as printed images on polycarbonate. The graphics were printed on 1525mm wide gloss Graphiprint 75 micron clear vinyl which were then laminated with a matt laminate 120 from the Grafiprint GEF range and then laminated to 5mm clear polycarbonate.”
Kevin Murphy, co-director, added: “The idea is that by printing on clear it doesn’t print the white content. The white is replaced with light so the matt laminate gives the light something to hold on to so it doesn’t travel through the clear image and polycarbonate. This gives a subtle transparent look which can be lit in any colour or made as dense subject to the lighting department’s demands resulting in a very translucent image.”
The project also involved printed corner units with backlit signage on them and the desks had LED edge lit printed signage and logos as well. All the graphics were printed on the company’s Mutoh Spitfire 65 Extreme mild solvent printer.
