Connect Sign and Graphic starts the boat race
Linkstrike, a division of Connect Sign and Graphic which specialises in bespoke, non-standard signage has just completed an unusual project, this time for Dublin Bay Sailing club (DBSC). It involved producing a printed”surround dodger around the top of the race committee‘s boat balcony. This is a screen at the forward end of the boats cockpit and acts as a wind/spray screen to ‘dodge’ behind in order to avoid spray or to get out of the wind. It is also where the race officer manages the racing events during regattas. DBSC, based in Dun Laoghaire, is the largest yacht-racing organisation on the Irish east coast catering for nearly four hundred yachts ranging in size from 50-footers down to small dinghies.
Situated in Bray, Connect Sign and Graphic’s main market focus is on visual communications through design, screen/large format printing, and fabrication
Paul Burke, one of the company’s directors explained some details about the job.“The boat itself is quite large at 40 foot and the signage produced involved both graphics and text,” said Burke. “The screen was made of heavy duty PVC with pockets, windows and velcose on the inside and UV protection as well. It was printed on the companies HP Designjet L25500 Printer with the entire job taking three days to turn around.”
