InkSplash creates a ‘virtual’ retail complex for Trinity College Biomedical Sciences
The new €131 million Trinity College Biomedical Sciences Institute on Pearse Street, Dublin 2 was officially opened by Taoiseach, Enda Kenny on June 17, 2011. However, for signs and media company InkSplash the preceding few days turned out to be a race against the clock as it had to print and install over 200 m2 of outside fixed window graphics on the ground floor of the research institute.
The new research facility is built around the areas of immunology, cancer and medical devices and is the university’s most ambitious capital project to date.
Although InkSplash Signs and Media is a relatively new company it is already making headlines with high profile organisations through its innovative signage solutions.
Ben Okonji who formed the company with partner Frank Smith last year said that the Trinity College Biomedical Sciences Institute project was typical of what the company was capable of achieving.
“At the base of the new biomedical centre there are a number of unoccupied retail units,” said Okonji. “InkSplash was given the contract to install 200 m2 of 3D graphics which portrayed shops, cafés and other retail style units in order to mask this part of the building particularly for the official opening day. The graphics themselves are extremely realistic and eye catching and were printed on a Roland DG Soljet Pro 11 using Metamark MD 5 digital vinyl. The finished result is really stunning particularly due to the 3D effect built into the graphic design.”
