McGowan’s :M-Press most productive installation during last quarter

Agfa Graphics believes the :M-Press installation at McGowan’s was the most productive of the worldwide installed user-base during the last quarter. Based in Dublin 11, McGowan’s is now arguably Ireland’s leading digital print solutions provider in the outdoor advertising, POS, exibition graphics and personalisation/variable imaging sectors.
Geert Van den hole, Agfa Graphics worldwide sales manager for :M-Press and :M-Press Tiger said: “From all the information available to us we can confirm that McGowan’s :M-Press is one of the top two most productive :M-Press’s in Europe, even worldwide. This varies from month to month but McGowan’s is definitely the most productive in the latest quarter. Printing volume on Agfa’s :M-Press at McGowan’s is rising significantly which might look strange in the current economic climate. However, it clearly confirms the increasing demand for short- and medium-runs and McGowan’s’ ability to offer these cost effectively to its customers. This trend is similar throughout Europe but nowhere as strong as at McGowan’s.”

Tony Roe, managing director of McGowan’s, said: “We are very busy production-wise, particularly in retail POS. I have never seen anything like it before. We’ve had unprecedented production output and the notification by Agfa that our :M Press is probably the busiest in the world currently can’t be bad. We’ve also had a big uplift in outdoor media production.”

Although commercial print at McGowan’s has suffered a little recently, Roe also pointed out that this is being compensated by a growing demand for variable image printing and one-to-one marketing.

The company also has further plans to improve productivity on its :M-Press as Roe explained.
“The :M-Press Tiger is an upgrade on the current model we have which will enable us to print at more that double our current speed,” he said. “It’s the same machine, just a different head alignment. Agfa has confirmed that the first worldwide upgrade is taking place in August, and we expect ours by the year’s end. However, the beauty of this machine is that it can’t and won’t become outdated. The handling component has the capacity to go four times its current speed, so the upgrading is on the digital carriage only which will be done every couple of years until we hit top speed which will absolutely change the face of large-format printing as we know to-day.”
