CMYUK has announced the theme of ‘architecture’ as its third Creatives in Residence Live (CIRL) programme brief – encouraging designers to create printed products including décor and wallpaper using materials such as wood, metal and vinyl.
“Brief #3 is written to encourage creatives to push boundaries – to discover the infinite scale and surface applications that digital technologies offer,” said syllabus compiler Debbie McKeegan, CEO at Texintel and Fespa textile ambassador.
The technology utilised for this brief will be from Epson, Mimaki, Canon, Klieverik, EFI, Kongsberg and AE Sewing. A group of mentors will help the CIRL designers with the new brief.
“The CMYUK graduates are now familiar with the digital processes and the best materials to use for certain applications. They have had a great deal of input from previous mentors and have really matured in the way they are working – taking into account the environmental impact of a project matched with production time scales and deadlines. I’m looking forward to seeing their projects and understanding the rationale behind their designs,” said Robin East, group sales and marketing director, CMYUK.
As with all the CIRL briefs, #3 is open to all design students – details are available online. Designs from the wider community will be accepted for brief #3 and any previous projects until the end of January 2022.
