Horizon shows its strong commitment to the environment

Horizon Innovative Digital and Print Solutions has completed a number of POS units for one of Ireland’s best known drink industry names, Heineken Ireland. The work was produced on a new material which Horizon has started to offer the market, Falconboard, a 100% paper-based graphic board made from renewable resources and which is also recyclable.

Tony Gillen, sales director of Horizon, said: “Falconboard is a new product in line with the company’s philosophy of trying where possible to offer customers innovative solutions from sustainable renewable resources. The main attraction that Heineken had with the units was the fact that they are made from a recycle material and that this material is also recyclable. The customer was also very excited with the flexibility of the material in particular the fact that it can be shaped and constructed into many different forms.”

Mark Needham, Horizons structural design team leader, added: “For this particular job 18mm Falconboard Build was used for added strength to prolong the unit’s in-store working life. The reason for this is that Falconboard is 100% recyclable, it delivers a competitively priced unit to the market without losing any of its strength qualities, it also uses less core material to manufacture than other similar boards on the market, therefore being less stressful on an already over taxed environment.

“The POS units were digitally printed, which allows for a faster turnaround time and they were cut on high end sophisticated CAD CAM machines. These allow greater control over the finished look of each unit and more versatility during production should the customer requires minor modifications throughout the cutting process; It also reduces set up costs and eliminates the purchasing of expensive die’s for die presses. The end result is a product which is extremely environmentally friendly, can be brought to the market much more efficiently, and lastly, one that has a longer in store working life than contemporary corrugated displays.”
