    Internet sales to top €330 billion in 2019

    Online sales in Europe will double between now and 2019, according to new research from Mintel.

    Mintel’s E-Commerce Europe 2014 report forecast that internet sales will surge 100 percent from €165 billion in 2013, to €330 billion in 2019.

    • Hard-copy entertainment products, such as books and DVDs, continue to be more popular than their downloadble equivalents

    • 42% of UK internet users shop via smartphone

    • Online groceries make up nearly a fifth of the UK’s e-commerce market

    • The average European retail spend per capita is expected to be €409 in 2014.

    The study, conducted in July, covered the 19 leading economies of Europe, which account for around 95% of all European retail sales, excluding Russia. You can find more information on the research here.
