Large-format art prints aim to educate the public

An exhibition of large-format reproductions of paintings held at the Prado Museum in Madrid has been on show at the Esplanade Park in Riga, Latvia.

The project has been carried out by the Spanish Embassy in Latvia in cooperation with the Riga Municipality and Prado Museum, as well as with the involvement of the Latvian National Museum of Fine Arts.

The Prado Urban Project began in 2015, when reproduced paintings were taken to the streets of several Latin American capitals. In 2019 the project toured cities in the Spanish area itself, and they have since been to Estonia.

The 2023 open-air exhibition consists of large-format reproductions of paintings in their original size. The viewer can take a chronological view of the various painting schools which form the artistic panorama of the Prado, from the 12th century to the early 20th century, by introducing the history of Spain and Europe, as well as the general history of Western art through Spanish, Italian, Flemish, French, German and Dutch paintings. for jobs.

In Riga there were 50 works painted by ‘supermasters’ such as Velaskess, Goija, El Greko, Ticiana, Ruben, Bosch, Rembrandt, etc., with the greatest emphasis on Spanish painting, which is not yet so well known for most of Latvia’s population.
