Print sector joins in Irish charity ride

About two dozen motor cycle riders from the UK Buell Enthusiasts Group will set off at 9:30am on Saturday 1 May from Waterford city to fundraise in aid of Papworth Hospital’s Cystic Fibrosis Unit in memorial to a member who died aged just 26.
The group hopes to complete at least a 1000 miles around Ireland and arrive back at a remote lighthouse near Waterford by 5:30pm the following Monday evening. One of the participants will be Adrian Purdy, MD of Purdy Graphic Systems.

Purdy said: “Every New Year I resolve to ride my bike more, but do not. So when I stumbled over this challenge, here was both an excuse and a reason to fulfil that resolution, whilst simultaneously providing something to talk about during idle time at Ipex. Just in case riding a 1000 miles around Ireland in three days was thought too easy, Dave Joyner of Saker Industrial decided to add to the excitement by using his 1951 Vincent Rapide and I will be on a Buell Ulysses. It’s about 30 years since I cycled around Connemara, and then hitched down south, so I’ve some fond memories to rekindle, but this test could be demanding. We’ve got accommodation arranged at the start and finish, but along the route could be something of a gamble depending on how the 1950’s engineering of Dave’s Vincent chooses to display itself. Put it this way, he’ll have a contact list of other Vincent owners in Ireland with him. It doesn’t sound hard when you’re sitting in your car, warm and dry, cruising up the motorway and listening to something jolly, but we reckon it will take us eight to ten hours riding each day because it’s not called the Emerald Isle for nothing. It’s more than likely that we’ll swap machines to enjoy a broader spread of aches and chafing, so if we don’t raise at least ?100, we’ll have to send photos.”
