Signsplus transforms Shannon Airport’s check-in and security area
Shannon Airport’s check-in and security area has been transformed into a sea of highly coloured red, yellow and orange wall graphics courtesy of Limerick based sign company, Signsplus.
The objective of this makeover was designed to create a positive sense of activity, happiness, and travel for the airport’s nearly 2.8m passengers who pass through the terminal building each year.
Signsplus is located on the Ballysimon Road, Limerick and to-day the company lists among its client base multinational companies, county councils and regional state organizations such as, the HSE (Health Service Executive), Intel, University of Limerick, ESB, Shannon Airport, Limerick City Council, Clare County Council, Coillte and many more.
John Sullivan, MD of the company said that the Shannon Airport job was a high profile project for his company: “The area involved was quite large so it was decided to incorporate a mix of painting interspersed with printed images based on the airport’s logo colours.”
The graphics depict a wide cross section of traveller groupings that use the facility through a combination of animated and real life prints.
“The idea was to try and capture the myriad of visitors who pass through the airport,” continued Sullivan. “Signsplus designed all the images from animated graphics showing business people, a large crowd of young people going on holidays, to images of happy families as well as the sky. The size of the graphics varied from 9 x 3m down to 6 x 3m. All the prints were produced in-house on a Mimaki JV3-160 using Oracle 3651 seven year vinyl which was then matt laminated. One of the special elements of this job was that Signsplus designed the theme using Shannon Airports new colour scheme. I think it gives a fresh contemporary feel to the graphics and will not date into the future.”
