Start-up company launches software for the sign trade

Start up company CostForProfit, based in Co. Offaly, is to release two new software products, PrintEstimator and CostForProfit, by the end of July, targeting in particular the sign making trade. The software code was developed initially by Brendan Dooley, manager of The Print Factory, a design, print and signage company located in Birr, Co Offaly. After his daughter Lisa and son Simon spotted the commercial viability of the software a new business was born with the help of The Offaly County Enterprise Board.
PrintEstimator is designed as a handy and fast application for pricing both print and sign jobs and CostForProfit has been developed to assist small to medium sized business’s determine the correct mark-up which should be charged for any service or product sold.
Brendan Dooley explained some details about each package. “CostForProfit is not an accounts package, it is a business calculator. Most people know their costs such as wages, overheads etc. in any given period. However, one of the key selling points of CostForProfit is that a company can divide its profit in two ways, either by selling material at cost or by making a larger portion of the profit from the material used and charge out a much lower labour cost. The result is that CostForProfit will generate the markup sign shops need to add to the material they sell as well as generating the hourly rate the business needs to charge based on a twelve month period. “
Dooley believes that sign shops in particular will also like the second package, PrintEstimator, due to its reliability and user friendly design. Again he stressed that it is not an accounts package and has been developed as a stand alone application to simplify and accelerate costing.
“PrintEstimator and CostForProfit combined make it a simple and logical process for print and sign businesses to work out what they need to charge; guesswork is eliminated,” added Lisa.
Both PrintEstimator and CostForProfit are designed for PC and compact laptops and will work on Vista, XP, Server 2003/ Server 2008 and also on Windows 7.Each product will be available as a download, on CD or pre-installed, complete with laptop.
