    Wallpen wonder

PSPs using wide-format inkjet machines to produce wall graphics take note of a mobile UV inkjet-based print solution that fits in a car, can be set up by one person in five minutes, and that can print graphics at up to 4m2/hr at 370 x 600dpi.

The Xaar-based printer from German company Wallpen has been developed over two years and is underpinned by 15 patents. Designed for printing direct to walls and vertical surfaces – including plaster, wallpaper, wood, stone, plastic, tiles, glass, metal and concrete – it incorporates a four-colour Xaar 128 print bar on a rigid but lightweight aluminium structure and can print on walls up to almost 4m high, with no limit to the printable width. It scans across the surface using a laser to adjust for surface imperfections and undulations, automatically and continuously adjusting the print arm as required.

Wallpen is the brainchild of Wallpen MD Andreas Schmidt, who said: “The Xaar 128 printheads are central to our product because of their ability to jet UV ink, and also because they can be easily incorporated into a small and lightweight printhead unit.”
